Purifying Flame is a skill gem that casts a wave of divine fire damage in a line, then creates Consecrated Ground and deals damage in an area around the targeted location. A larger shockwave then expands outwards, damaging enemies standing on Consecrated Ground that were not already hit.

Skill functions and interactions

The secondary shockwave can only hit enemies that were not previously hit by the initial cast, meaning that an enemy will only take damage from this spell once per cast.

With the Crucible Passive Skill "Consecrated Path and Purifying Flame create Profane Ground instead of Consecrated Ground 100% of Consecrated Path and Purifying Flame Fire Damage Converted to Chaos Damage" the secondary waves of Purifying Flame will not function unless another source of Consecrated Ground is available and the Anomalous alternate quality will create profane ground at your location instead.
