The Lightless

The Lightless, also known as "the Abyssals", are a race of beings long thought to be dead, now climbing out from underneath the surface of Wraeclast from the Abyss through expanding cracks in the ground. Lore

The Lightless are fearful of the light - especially the light of the sun. The "dead are stated to serve them, they themselves serving only the "Night". It is not clear what either statement means.

Abyssal Liches

The Lightless are led by several powerful Abyssal Liches. The Liches serve as the leaders and rulers of the Lightless. The known Liches are:

• Amanamu, Liege of the Lightless - Encountered as a boss in the Abyssal Depths
• Ulaman, Sovereign of the Well - Encountered as a boss in the Abyssal Depths

• Note for completing league challenges : Only Amanamu and Ulaman are considered as Abyssal Liches for the purpose of league challenges as they are the two bosses released during the Abyss league and directly link to Abyss mechanic, even Kurgal is also an Abyssal Lich according to lore.

History

The origins of the Lightless are unknown. Their first emergence chronologically correlates with the eruption of a mountain/volcano spewing ash into the sky and presumably blotting out the sun. It is theorized that this blocking of the sun was what enabled them to first rise up.

On the Lightless's first attack, large numbers of a tribe of Maraketh were killed. The survivors, along with The Clayshaper Ahkeli, formed the Order of the Djinn and repelled the Lightless invasions.

Within the Maraketh tribe, three sisters: Solerai, Lundara, and Viridi emerged. Solerai and Lundra, twin Sekhema, took up weapons with "essence" of gold and silver respectively and successfully drove the Lightless back underground through unspecified means.

The flavour text of Abyss Scarabs indicates that the Lightless have once attempted to subjugate the Vastiri Plains and fought against Ahkeli and the Maraketh.
