Doryani was a thaumaturgist under the command of the Vaal Queen Atziri.
Being responsible for some of the Vaal's greatest achievements (and ultimate downfall), he is one of the most prolific and important members of the Vaal.
Lore
Referred to as "The Queen's Thaumaturgist," Doryani was the most ambitious and capable of Queen Atziri's court.
Although taking part in bringing his civilization to unprecedented heights, he was always frustrated with his own mortality (like Queen Atziri) and constantly sought to attain immortality.
Finally, around 400 BIC, Doryani enacted an event that resulted in the Fall of the Vaal, which caused the deaths of him, Queen Atziri, and millions of Vaal, effectively ending the Vaal civilization. Some Vaal survived to live with the Azmeri, although none of them would ever reveal details about what Doryani had done.

Doryani seems to have used criminals for horrific experiments, no matter how severe their offence. In this case, he used an advisor to the queen, socketing gems directly into their flesh. This was done to help Atziri with her search for eternal youth.
