Ignite is an elemental status ailment associated with fire that burns the affected target, causing fire damage over time.

Ignite is typically inflicted by critical strikes of fire damage. Damage over time effects, such as Module Error: Too many skills found with q_where = skill.active_skill_name="Searing Bond". Please choose only one of the following ids:
SearingBondRoyale - +1 to maximum number of Summoned Totems, Totem lasts 8 seconds, Deals (21.4-399.6) Base Fire Damage per second, Modifiers to Spell Damage apply to this Skill's Damage Over Time effect, Summons a Totem which uses this Skill (page)

, do not hit and therefore cannot inflict ignite. There are other ways for ignite to be applied as well. Targets cursed with Flammability have a chance to be ignited when hit with any fire damage. The Burning Arrow skill has a built-in chance to ignite targets.

The base duration of ignite is 4 seconds. The burning damage over time is 20% of the initial hit of fire damage, per second. Therefore, over the base duration the target will take 80% of the damage dealt by the original hit.[1]

Separate applications of ignite do not stack cumulatively. Each ignite effect remains present on the target until it runs its course, but only the one with the highest damage per second will cause damage at any given moment.[1] For example, assume an enemy is inflicted with ignite for 100 damage per second, then after 2 seconds it is inflicted with ignite for 50 damage per second. The outcome will be 400 damage over 4 seconds followed by 100 damage over 2 seconds.

The % increased Damage, % increased Fire Damage, % increased Elemental Damage modifiers and Minion Damage gem scale ignite damage twice:[2]

  1. The damage of the hit/spell is increased, resulting in higher ignite base damage.
  2. The resulting ignite effect is scaled again by the same modifiers.

The % increased Burning Damage and % increased Damage over Time modifiers apply only once - to ignite effect itself, but don't increase the base damage of the hit that caused ignite.
