A Marauder with five auras: Determination, Grace, Haste, Hatred and Purity of Elements.

Auras are permanent buff effects that benefit your character and extend their benefits to nearby party members and minions. Regular auras (applied by skills) reserve a percentage of the player's mana pool, with the exception of Clarity, which reserves a flat amount.

All allies within range of a player's aura skill will receive the aura's buff. Passive and item mod bonuses can apply to the stats granted by auras, but these bonuses are determined by the passives and items of the receiver, not the player who is the source of the aura. For example, player A has passives for extra energy shield and is generating a Discipline aura. Player A will gain a bonus on the energy shield granted by the aura. But party member Player B who is standing inside the aura radius of Player A will only receive the base amount of energy shield granted by the aura unless Player B also has energy shield boosting passives.

Skills

Most auras originate from skills. These can either be regular aura skills or curse auras.

Regular aura skills

Regular auras come from aura skill gems and grant the player bonus stats. There are currently 13 aura skills that grant a permanent effect:

Hatred Casts an aura that adds Cold damage, by a percentage of your physical damage, to any physical damage skill including spells. 50% 24
Purity of Elements Casts an aura that grants a bonus to all Elemental Resistances. 35% 24
Purity of Fire Casts an aura that grants a bonus to Fire Resistance and Maximum Fire Resistance. 35% 24
Purity of Ice Casts an aura that grants a bonus to Cold Resistance and Maximum Cold Resistance. 35% 24
Purity of Lightning Casts an aura that grants a bonus to Lightning Resistance and Maximum Lightning Resistance. 35% 24
Vitality Casts an aura that grants life regeneration based on a percentage of maximum life. 35% 24
Wrath Casts an aura that adds flat Lightning damage to attacks and a percentage increased Lightning damage to spells. 50% 24

And there are five vaal auras that grant a temporary effect:

Curse auras

With the use of the Module Error: No skills found with q_where = skill.active_skill_name="Blasphemy" support gem, any curse gem may be converted into an aura. Curse auras are affected by both curse and aura radius increases. Most aura effect increases specify that they only apply to non-curse auras. They will have no effect on curse auras.

Curses applied via Blasphemy count towards the active curse limit.

Support Gem Combinations

Auras themselves do not do damage. They provide a buff which can add extra damage, extra defenses or utility. As with curses, added damage supports can't be linked with auras successfully. These support gems will affect auras:

Module Error: No skills found with q_where = skill.active_skill_name="Blasphemy" - Turns supported curses into an aura.
Module Error: No skills found with q_where = skill.active_skill_name="Blood Magic" - This will cause linked auras to reserve health instead of mana.
Module Error: No skills found with q_where = skill.active_skill_name="Spell Totem" - Casts a totem which will maintain the aura. The cost to cast the totem is the mana that would be reserved multiplied by the Mana Cost Multiplier of the Totem support and any other linked support gems.
Module Error: No skills found with q_where = skill.active_skill_name="Generosity" - Increases the effect of the non-curse auras on allies (including minions) but prevents them from affecting the player.
Module Error: No skills found with q_where = skill.active_skill_name="Enlighten" - Reduces the mana reserved by the aura.
Module Error: No skills found with q_where = skill.active_skill_name="Empower" - Adds levels to supported auras.
Note! Module Error: No skills found with q_where = skill.active_skill_name="Reduced Mana" - does not affect mana/health reservation.

Calculation Mechanics

The calculation to determine the reservation cost of an aura is ceiling(ceiling(floor(base Mana Reserved * Mana Multiplier) * (100% - less Mana Reserved)) * (100% - reduced Mana Reserved)).
With equipment and passives available as of version 1.3, each category includes the following.
