Herald of Thunder

Herald of Thunder is a self-cast buff that reserves mana to increase damage output. See also Herald of Ash and Herald of Ice.

Mechanics

Similar to the Herald of Ash and Herald of Ice skill gems, Herald of Thunder has two separate effects.

The first effect adds x-y lightning damage to both spells and attacks. Damage dealt by this effect can shock.

The second effect is triggered when a shocked enemy is killed. Lightning bolts strike enemies and destructable objects within Herald of Thunder's radius for its duration. This AoE remains centered on the character's location if the character moves. Damage dealt by this effect cannot inflict shock, and is not an area of effect.

The on-kill effect will strike an enemy or destructible object every 250ms, but will not strike the same enemy again within 400ms.

Unlike Herald of Ash, the on-kill effect from Herald of Thunder applies to enemies killed by attacks as well as spells.

Interactions

• Elemental Damage: Elemental and lightning damage modifiers affect both the on-hit and on-kill effects of Herald of Thunder. Added damage from support gems such as and only applies to Herald of Thunder's on-kill effect.

• Casting and Spell Interactions: Because Herald of Thunder is a cast and not a spell it is not directly affected by items, support gems or passive skills which specifically modify spells. However, such spell modifiers will affect Herald of Thunder's added on-hit damage if the skill that damage is added to is a spell. Being a cast, Herald of Thunder benefits from items, support gems and passive skills which modify cast (e.g. faster casting). Faster casting increases the cast speed of the Herald of Thunder buff itself, but does not affect any other aspect of the skill.

• Area of Effect: AoE modifiers like and affect the radius in which which Herald of Thunder's on-kill effect can strike targets. does not appear to increase the tooltip damage of Herald of Thunder's on-kill effect.

• Duration" Duration modifiers like and affect the duration of the on-kill effect.

• Auras, Buffs and Mana Reservation: Like Herald of Ash and Herald of Ice, Herald of Thunder is not an aura and does not receive bonuses from aura nodes, items or support gems. It does reserve mana however, and it therefore benefits from reduced Mana Reserved modifiers.

• Quality: Herald of Thunder's increased lightning damage quality bonus is global, meaning that it affects the character's lightning damage from all sources, not only Herald of Thunder.

• Cannot Apply Shock: Herald of Thunder's on-kill effect cannot apply Shock. However, if The Three DragonsThe Three Dragons
