Trauma damage has no crit roll, and can only crit you if you have a modifier that makes hits always crit you.[1][2]
Recoup is a valuable stat to have due to the escalating damage quickly exceeding and overpowering other forms of recovery, whereas Recoup will always recover the same percentage of damage received.
