Penance Brand of Dissipation is a spell that creates a brand at the target location, which when attached to an enemy adds Energy to the branded enemy and causes a pulse on activation, dealing damage to the branded enemy and nearby enemies.

Changes from default version

Unlike the original skill, this transfigured version has a limited Attached duration. It repeatedly pulses on activation, increasing in size and damage with the amount of energy on the target. Compared to the original, it has lower damage and damage effectiveness and slower activation frequency, but more damage with Hits and Ailments to the branded enemy, scaling with the amount of energy added. The brand does not explode on reaching maximum energy, nor is it consumed at maximum energy.

Skill functions and interactions

  • Activation frequency: Brands proc their effects at intervals determined by activation frequency, which is every 0.75 seconds by default. This frequency is affected by increases and reductions to cast speed; however, it is not affected by more/less multipliers (e.g. Spell Echo SupportSpell Echo SupportSpell, Support

  • Energy: Penance Brand of Dissipation adds a stack of Energy to the enemy it is attached to each time the brand activates, up to a cap of 20 Energy. Unlike its regular version, Penance Brand of Dissipation does not cause an explosion or reset Energy, and instead prefers to maintain maximum Energy to maximize its scaling of damage and radius per additional Energy.     • The Brand Mastery is not recommended with this skill as it will result in constantly switching to a new target with 0 Energy, making the scaling from Energy ineffective.
  • Multiple brands: If multiple Penance Brands of Dissipation are attached to an enemy simultaneously (via Runebinder), each brand will independently add Energy stacks towards the shared 20 Energy cap, accelerating the rate at which the cap is reached. Each brand also deals damage each time it pulses, effectively doubling the damage dealt in the same interval of time. Because of both of these benefits, it is highly recommended to use multiple Penance Brands of Dissipation if possible.

    : If Penance Brand is attached to an enemy with a Penance Brand of Dissipation already attached, and Energy is currently below 20, the regular Penance Brand will explode on reaching 20 Energy and reset Energy to 0, resetting PBoD's damage and radius scaling. However, if PB is attached while an enemy is already at 20 Energy from PBoD, it will never "reach 20 Energy", so PB will remain attached and not explode until PBoD expires, resetting Energy to zero, then reaches 20 again from PB alone.[2] Ultimately, these gems are anti-synergistic with each other.
