Soul Eater is a buff that causes affected characters and monsters to Eat a Soul when they kill an enemy, gaining an Eaten Soul. There is a maximum of 45 souls. Characters and monsters gain 5% increased attack speed and cast speed per soul, with monsters also gaining 2% less Damage Taken per soul. A soul is lost every 0.5 seconds if a soul has not been gained recently.

Mechanics

The Soul Eater buff will persist until the original source creating it expires. The effect does not stack or refresh, and Soul Eater cannot be gained while an entity already has Soul Eater.

Soul Eater has a limited radius of 60 units.[1] Killing enemies farther away than this will not give stacks.[2] Monsters which have Soul Eater still gain souls while invulnerable; however, monsters that burrow (e.g. Devourers) are often out of the range to gain souls.[3]

Vaal skills will not gain souls during the Soul Eater buff effect, as they share the resource.

On monsters

In addition to the increased attack speed and cast speed modifiers, monsters with Soul Eater also gain a certain value of damage reduction per Eaten Soul. By default, this value is 2%.

The Archnemesis modifier HungeringHungering
Intrinsic
(Soul Eater) grants Grants 5% increased Damage Reduction to aura owner on death (Hidden). This version of Soul Eater also summons Shackled Phantasms every 4 seconds which contribute additional Souls to the monster.

Witch of the Cauldron, a map boss version of Alira, has a unique version of Soul Eater Module Error: No results found.. It instead grants 1% Character Size, 3% Attack and Cast Speed, and 2% Damage Reduction per consumed Soul.

Simi, the Nature Touched, an Invasion/Vaal Side Area Boss, also uses its own version of Soul Eater Module Error: No results found.. It also instead grants 1% Character Size, 3% Attack and Cast Speed, and 2% Damage Reduction per consumed Soul.

Soul Eater on Monsters do not have a duration and will last indefinitely unless the monster has phase transitions. Soul Eater stacks are reset to zero if a monster becomes possessed by a Tormented Spirit.[4]

On players

Characters do not gain damage reduction from Soul Eater.[5]
