Soul Eater is a stackable buff that grants 5% increased attack speed, 5% increased cast speed and 1% increased character size per stack. Every enemy killed grants 1 stack.
Soul Eater is a buff that causes affected characters and monsters to Eat a Soul when they kill an enemy, gaining an Eaten Soul. Souls are capped at 45 stacks. Per soul, characters and monsters gain 5% increased attack speed, 5% increased cast speed, and 1% increased character size. Monsters also gain 2% less Damage Taken per soul. A soul is lost every 0.5 seconds if a soul has not been gained recently.

Soul eater buff will persist until the original source creating it expires. Therefore the player character can't gain soul eater buff while they already have soul eater buff and can't refresh buff duration until its expires and loses all stacks. When having this buff, there is no cap on how many soul stacked.
The Soul Eater buff itself will persist until the source of it expires. The effect does not stack or refresh, and Soul Eater cannot be gained while an entity already has Soul Eater.

Stacks - Soul eater has no cap for the buff stacks. Killing a large amount of enemies with a long soul eater duration can give a character large amounts of cast and attack speed. For Example:
Vaal skills will not gain souls during the Soul Eater buff effect, as they share the resource.
*With a 20 second buff, killing 50 enemies in 10 seconds will give 250% attack and cast speed for the last 10 seconds of the buff. (This is not counting all kills made the last 10 seconds of the buff)

Soul Eater

You have increased Attack speed, Cast speed and Character Size
A player with a Headhunter equipped to steal the Soul Eater buff displaying how stacks increase character size.

Mechanics

The Soul Eater buff itself will persist until the source of it expires. The effect does not stack or refresh, and Soul Eater cannot be gained while an entity already has Soul Eater.

Soul Eater has a limited radius of 60 units.[1] Killing enemies farther away than this will not give stacks.[2] Monsters which have Soul Eater still gain souls while invulnerable; however, monsters that burrow (e.g. Devourers) are often out of the range to gain souls.[3]

Vaal skills will not gain souls during the Soul Eater buff effect, as they share the resource.

On monsters

For monsters, in addition to increased attack speed and cast speed, Soul Eater also provides 2% less damage taken per soul consumed, up to 90% less damage taken at 45 souls.

Soul Eater on monsters do not have a duration and will last indefinitely unless the monster has a phase transition. Soul Eater stacks are reset to zero if a monster becomes possessed by a Tormented Spirit.[4]

On players

Characters do not gain damage reduction from Soul Eater.[5]
