Damage over time (DoT) is type of damage that works over an extended period of time. It is neither spell damage nor attack damage, and modifiers specific to those types will not apply. Increased damage over time will not increase the damage you deal to yourself, for instance with Blood Rage.

Common forms of damage over time are chaos damage, fire damage or physical damage.

Damage conversion does not work on damage over time.

Burning Damage

Burning damage, more specifically Ignite, is inflicted when you deal a critical strike with fire damage. This can be done with any skill, although some skills have built-in chance to ignite, like Burning Arrow. See Ignite for more information.

Corruption is a notable passive skill that grants increased Effect of Withered.

The increased effect of wither granted by this notable does not affect wither inflicted by minions.[1]

Location

As of version 3.19.0, the passive skill cluster is located at the top of the tree, aka Witch area. Heart of Darkness is in the same cluster. The cluster shares the same connection small passive node with Brand Equity, Prism Weave and Unnatural Calm clusters.
