Mechanics

The bonuses to attack damage, attack speed, and area of effect are global, and stack additively with other sources of increased attack damage, attack speed, and area of effect radius.

Damage Scaling

Strength - Pillar of the caged god can scale increased physical damage modifiers to much higher levels than most builds by having large amounts of strength. When combined with large amounts of flat added physical damage from non-weapon sources, it can scale damage competitive with high damage rare staves. Some examples of large sources of flat added physical are:

  • Bloodthirst support adds 2% of your life as flat added physical damage to weapons.
    • Example: A very high strength stacking build with average % increased life has 8,000 total life. (8,000 X .02) = 160 Flat added physical weapon damage.
  • Party - Having an ally with large average flat physical damage weapon use Rallying CryRallying CryWarcry, AoE, Duration

Design attribution

Pillar of the Caged God was created by supporter QixunZ26.

The flavour text suggests that the staff was "destined to serve the monkey's paw". This draws parallels to the Ruyi Jingu Bang, a magical staff wielded by Sun Wukong, a figure of classical Chinese literature who was trapped for 500 years by Buddha in the story Journey to the West. (A "Caged God".)

Modifiers

The Enemies Frozen by you take 20% increased Damage is an effect that's tacked onto any ability you do which freezes an enemy while this weapon is equipped. As such, freezing an enemy and then weapon swapping will keep the damage debuff on an enemy.[citation needed] Since the attribute modifies the enemy's damage taken instead of your damage dealt it stacks additively with other effects that increase enemy damage taken, such as shock, but otherwise can effectively be considered a damage multiplier.
