Template:Gem Infobox A trick often employed by masters of minion control, the feared Punishment curse has brought down entire armies. The malady causes afflicted targets to suffer a substantial amount of the damage they deal from their own attacks, so the harder they hit, the faster they die. The secret is in making sure that incoming blows land on the dry bones and withered flesh of enemies rather than on the caster of the Curse.

Punishment is a curse that causes enemies to suffer some of the physical damage they deal with attacks.

Mechanics

This curse's effect will only reflect physical damage. Any other damage taken will not factor into returned damage. The reflected damage will also land in the form of physical damage, which is then subjected to reduction by the monster's armor. Reflected damage is also reduced indirectly by the armor of whatever the cursed entity is attacking, reflecting only the portion of damage which actually affects the allied target in question. If either the cursed attacker or defender are shocked, that multiplier also factors in.

As such, damage dealt by Punishment is calculated as follows: (Monster's base damage on hit) * (monster type multiplier, in table below) * (100% - target's physical damage reduction) * (100% - monster's physical damage reduction) * (150% if attacker is shocked) * (150% if defender is shocked) = (damage taken from Punishment effect)

The result is that armor tanks deal very little damage with this ability. Minion users, however, enjoy much greater effects.

This is the only curse which can cause damage without any subsequent action by the user. However, no damage-modifying support gems will act on the damage dealt, as the player is not actively dealing this damage. Spell damage passives or item mods similarly do not affect it.

In PvP, enemy players register as normal enemies when calculating returned damage.[1]
