Metamod

Meta-crafting Modifiers, commonly referred to as Metamods, refers to these crafted modifiers:

• of Prefixes - Prefixes Cannot Be Changed (Suffix)
• Suffixed - Suffixes Cannot Be Changed (Prefix)
• of Spellcraft - Cannot roll Attack Modifiers (Suffix)
• of Weaponcraft - Cannot roll Caster Modifiers (Suffix)
• of Crafting - Can have up to 3 Crafted Modifiers (Suffix)

The following legacy Metamod is only available on existing items in the permanent leagues.

• of Dueling - Cannot roll Modifiers with Required Level above 28 (Suffix)

These modifiers can be unlocked in specific end-game maps. Read Crafting Bench § Crafting modifiers for details.

Metamods do not grant stats or bonuses, but rather affect other mods, and may override regular crafting rules. Rules and Exceptions

Many of the currencies and crafting options available will ignore some or all Metamods. • Prefixes Cannot Be Changed

For example, if Prefixes Cannot Be Changed is crafted on the item , when using a Chaos OrbChaos OrbStack Size: 20Reforges a rare item with new random modifiersRight click this item then left click a rare item to apply it. or on the item, existing prefix(es) are kept. If the item has 1 open prefix (ie. only 2 prefixes and 1 additional space) and the Prefixes Cannot Be Changed is the only suffix, the Orbs may add 1 prefix as well as 0 to 3 suffixes to the item, or add 0 prefix and add 1 to 3 suffixes to the item. Players can still kept the open prefix by crafting multi-mod (Can have up to 3 Crafted Modifiers) and fill the open prefix with temp crafted mod, as well Prefixes Cannot Be Changed on the item, and then use the aforementioned Orb. Note that each use of Orb and crafted mods are expensive in this way.

• Suffixes Cannot Be Changed

The use of Suffixes Cannot Be Changed is similar to Prefixes Cannot Be Changed. Only the difference is: Can have up to 3 Crafted Modifiers is a suffix.

• Cannot roll Attack Modifiers

The mod prevent any item with the attack mod tag (mod tag can be viewed on item by pressing Alt in PC; console has other default keybind) spawn on the item. List of datamined mod can be viewed here.

For example, the mod pool of a normal non-influenced bow contains all but one prefix mod that does not have attack mod tag. By using Cannot roll Attack Modifiers on an item which has at least one open prefix (and no more open suffix), the mod +1 to Level of Socketed Gems is guaranteed to spawn by using Leo (read above for details), Exalted OrbExalted OrbStack Size: 20Augments a rare item with a new random modifierRight click this item then left click a rare item to apply it. Similar bow, such as +1 to Level of Socketed Gems plus Damage Penetrates #% Cold/Fire/Lightning Resistance can be crafted by using similar logic. In the past, +3 to fire/cold/lightning gem bows can also created by this method, only the dev removed those +2 to fire/cold/lightning gem from the essence and replaced by aforementioned Damage Penetrates #% Cold/Fire/Lightning Resistance mods.

Other basetype can also be use this metamod. However, other basetype may have mod that both attack and caster in the mod pool, or mod that neither attack nor caster mod . • Cannot roll Caster Modifiers

Similar to "cannot roll attack mod", Cannot roll Caster Modifiers metamod prevented the item to spawn caster modifier. List of datamined mod can be viewed here.

Orb of Scouring is commonly used with the metamod Prefixes Cannot Be Changed or Suffixes Cannot Be Changed:

the Orb of Scouring will remove ALL suffix (including Prefixes Cannot Be Changed) and keep ALL prefix of the item, if the item has crafted with the mod Prefixes Cannot Be Changed.

the Orb of Scouring will remove ALL prefix (including Suffixes Cannot Be Changed) and keep ALL suffix of the item, if the item has crafted with the mod Suffixes Cannot Be Changed.

• Essence and Fossil

As state in above example, Essence can be used with metamod in crafting. The only thing to remember: essence ignore metamod. In fact, when using essence or fossil on an item with metamod (other then the multi-craft mod), the game will warn you that Failed to apply item: You can't use this currency on items with a modifier that affects mod outcomes. So that item must be crafted with essence (and fossil if the player want to use the item to have fossil specific mod, or just want to aid the crafting by using fossil combo to block or increase the odd of some mod) first and then using metamod to aid the crafting by using basic currencies.

• Awakener's OrbAwakener's OrbStack Size: 10Destroys an item, applying its influence to another of the same item class

Awakener's Orb is changed shortly after its introduction so that it ignore metamod. Apart from up to two influenced mods that the orb will kept (at most one from each ingredients and only if they are in different mod group), the orb will reroll the item, so that it is a waste of currency to try to craft metamod on the mod receiving item , as the metamod will not protect the affix from the changes by the Awakener's OrbAwakener's OrbStack Size: 10Destroys an item, applying its influence to another of the same item class
