A Bitter Ritual Altar encountered within the Acts

Rituals are a map event where several Ritual Altars appear, introduced in the Ritual league. Ritual Altars can appear within the Acts and within Maps. All of the altars in the area are part of the same set, and share the same pool of rewards. Each successive Ritual in an area is harder and offers better rewards.

After activating the ritual altar, players must defeat the enemies enclosed within the Ritual Circle, gaining Tribute in the process. Players can then spend the earned Tribute to purchase various types of rewards including pre-identified rare items.

Types

A Ritual in progress with monsters attacking the player with the Ritual Circle

Ritual Altars can have various prefixes, listed below. Each prefix gives the ritual a different set of buffs to enemies and environmental damage.

Infernal

  • Monsters do increased fire damage and can ignite.
  • Meteors hit the ground that shoot out smaller fireballs that do damage randomly.

Suppressive

  • Monsters regenerate life.
  • Smothering mist reduces health regeneration.

Violent

  • Monsters do increased physical damage and can cause bleeding.
  • Pain totems pulse damaging waves.

Bitter

  • Monsters deal extra cold damage and can freeze.
  • Ice beams rotate.

Ensconced

  • Monsters gain extra energy shield based on life.
  • Altar restores monster energy shield.

Fluctuant

  • Monsters get increased lightning damage.
  • Damaging lightning balls cross the screen.

Vaal

  • Items dropped by slain monsters are corrupted.
  • Atziri's apparition protects the altar.

Rewards

Ritual Favors interface that allows players to select their rewards

After completing a ritual, players can click the Altar to display the Favours interface that allows players to select their own rewards, in exchange for Tribute points.

  • All items are identified and players can see the exact mods and rolls of the item before selecting the reward.
  • After a reward is selected and withdrawn, it cannot be returned/refunded, so players must select wisely.
  • All of the altars in the area are part of the same set, and share the same pool of rewards.
  • Completing a single ritual will only reveal 1/2 or 1/3 of the possible rewards.
  • In order to reveal all the possible rewards, players need to complete all the ritual altars in the area/map.

Tip: It is recommended to complete all of the ritual altars in the area/map and then withdraw rewards, as all the possible rewards will be revealed and players will have the maximum possible Tribute to spend on rewards.

Types

Ritual rewards include:

Deferring

Rare items you don't have enough enough tribute for can be deferred for a fraction of their price. This removes a portion of the items price, and makes it appear in rituals several maps later. It is currently undetermined how long it takes for deferred items to show back up. Items can be deferred unlimited times, but there is a unknown max to how many items can be deferred. If an item is deferred and shows back up, if you don't pay to defer it or take it, the next time you see it will raise in price, and then will disappear if not deferred or taken.
