While is not affecting the meta of the item, it is still considered one of the metamods and was gated behind level 8 Master. It can be used in the crafting, for example by crafting temp mods on the item to block Exalted Orb to select those mods (or mods from those mod groups). However, since it is expensive, it is more used in situations such as multi-craft item to finish that 3-mods item with 2 more crafted mods that synergize.
Metamods do not grant stats or bonuses, but rather affect other mods, and may override regular crafting rules. For example, crafted will prevent an Orb of Annulment from removing a desirable prefix modifier. It will not, however, prevent adding a new modifier, such as through an Exalted Orb or Chaos Orb, as it only applies to existing modifiers.
Note that some currencies and crafting methods cannot be used on items with metamods, such as essences, or ignore metamods, such as Awakener's Orbs.

All these mods are now unlocked via a specific end-game map. Read Crafting Bench for details.

Meta-crafting Modifiers, commonly referred to as Metamods, refers to these crafted modifiers:

The following legacy Metamod is only available on existing items in the permanent leagues.

These modifiers can be unlocked in specific end-game maps. See Crafting Bench § Crafting modifiers for details.

Metamods do not grant stats or bonuses, but rather affect other mods, and may override regular crafting rules.[1] For example, Prefixes Cannot Be Changed will prevent an Orb of AnnulmentOrb of AnnulmentStack Size: 20Removes a random modifier from an itemRight click this item then left click on a magic or rare item to apply it. from removing a desirable prefix modifier. It will not, however, prevent adding a new modifier, such as through an Exalted OrbExalted OrbStack Size: 20Augments a rare item with a new random modifierRight click this item then left click a rare item to apply it. Rare items can have up to six random modifiers. or Chaos OrbChaos OrbStack Size: 20Reforges a rare item with new random modifiersRight click this item then left click a rare item to apply it., as it only applies to existing modifiers. Note that some currencies and crafting methods cannot be used on items with metamods, such as essences[2], or ignore metamods, such as Awakener's OrbAwakener's OrbStack Size: 10Destroys an item, applying its influence to another of the same item class
The second item is reforged as a rare item with both influence types and new modifiers
Right click this item, then left click the item you wish to take the influence from, then left click an item of the same item class you wish to apply it to.

Rules and Exceptions

Some of the currencies and crafting options available will ignore different metamods. Likewise, currencies such as Orb of AlchemyOrb of AlchemyStack Size: 20Upgrades a normal item to a rare itemRight click this item then left click a normal item to apply it. must be used on a normal item, which invariably may not have a crafted modifier on them. The tables below show which options will respect or ignore metamods.

  • Prefixes Cannot Be Changed
For example, if Prefixes Cannot Be Changed is crafted on the item, when using a Chaos OrbChaos OrbStack Size: 20Reforges a rare item with new random modifiersRight click this item then left click a rare item to apply it., existing prefix(es) are kept. If the item has 1 open prefix (ie. only 2 prefixes and 1 additional space) and the Prefixes Cannot Be Changed is the only suffix, the Orbs may add 1 prefix as well as 0 to 3 suffixes to the item, or add 0 prefix and add 1 to 3 suffixes to the item. Players can still kept the open prefix by crafting multi-mod (Can have up to 3 Crafted Modifiers) and fill the open prefix with temp crafted mod, as well Prefixes Cannot Be Changed on the item, and then use the aforementioned Orb. Note that each use of Orb and crafted mods are expensive in this way.
Prefixes/Suffixes Cannot Be Changed is the only way to keep the drop only mod (or any other mod want to keep) on the item after using Chaos OrbChaos OrbStack Size: 20Reforges a rare item with new random modifiersRight click this item then left click a rare item to apply it. on it,
  • Suffixes Cannot Be Changed
The use of Suffixes Cannot Be Changed is similar to Prefixes Cannot Be Changed. Only the difference is: Can have up to 3 Crafted Modifiers is a suffix.
  • Cannot roll Attack Modifiers
The mod prevent any item with the attack mod tag (mod tag can be viewed on item by pressing Alt in PC; console has other default keybind) spawn on the item. List of datamined mod can be viewed here.
For example, the mod pool of a normal non-influenced bow contains all but one prefix mod that does not have attack mod tag. By using Cannot roll Attack Modifiers on an item which has at least one open prefix (and no more open suffix), the mod +1 to Level of Socketed Gems is guaranteed to spawn by using Exalted OrbExalted OrbStack Size: 20Augments a rare item with a new random modifierRight click this item then left click a rare item to apply it. Rare items can have up to six random modifiers. or beastcrafting recipe "add prefix remove suffix". Note that item level may still prevent the spawn of that mod, but player confirmed that aforementioned beastcrafting recipe ignore ilevel of the item and can force to spawn that mod in this example craft.

(or other 6L bow from other divination cards or natural drop). This can be done when the item has one or two open prefixes (for +1 to Level of Socketed Gems) and one open suffix (for crafting Cannot roll Attack Modifiers) after the use of essence. If the item reached that state, use Exalted OrbExalted OrbStack Size: 20Augments a rare item with a new random modifierRight click this item then left click a rare item to apply it. Rare items can have up to six random modifiers. or beastcrafting "add prefix remove suffix" on the item, can force spawn that +1 to Level of Socketed Gems mod to create a "+3 level bow" to gem with bow gem tag. In which beastcrafting may be the more economical method, but it may choose either Cannot roll Attack Modifiers (which is good), or other suffix of the item which the player want to keep. , not only consider the number of affix to available to craft, but also mods other than the essence guaranteed +2 to Level of Socketed Bow Gems are goods or not. Similar bow, such as +1 to Level of Socketed Gems plus Damage Penetrates #% Cold/Fire/Lightning Resistance can be crafted by using similar logic. In the past, +3 to fire/cold/lightning gem bows can also created by this method, only the dev removed those +2 to fire/cold/lightning gem from the essence and replaced by aforementioned Damage Penetrates #% Cold/Fire/Lightning Resistance mods.
Other basetype can also be use this metamod. However, other basetype may have mod that both attack and caster in the mod pool, or mod that neither attack nor caster mod. • Cannot roll Caster Modifiers
Similar to "cannot roll attack mod", Cannot roll Caster Modifiers metamod prevented the item to spawn caster modifier. List of datamined mod can be viewed here.
  • Orb of ScouringOrb of ScouringStack Size: 30Removes all modifiers from an itemRight click this item then left click on a magic or rare item to apply it.
Orb of Scouring is commonly used with the metamod Prefixes Cannot Be Changed or Suffixes Cannot Be Changed:
the Orb of Scouring will remove ALL suffix (including Prefixes Cannot Be Changed) and keep ALL prefix of the item, if the item has crafted with the mod Prefixes Cannot Be Changed.
the Orb of Scouring will remove ALL prefix (including Suffixes Cannot Be Changed) and keep ALL suffix of the item, if the item has crafted with the mod Suffixes Cannot Be Changed.
Since the two mods are similar (only one word difference), please read carefully before craft the metamod and read and plan very very carefully when using Orb of ScouringOrb of ScouringStack Size: 30Removes all modifiers from an itemRight click this item then left click on a magic or rare item to apply it.. Never use Orb of ScouringOrb of ScouringStack Size: 30Removes all modifiers from an itemRight click this item then left click on a magic or rare item to apply it. on item without any crafted mod, unless you are really really want to turn it into normal rarity.
When using essence or fossil on an item with metamod (other then the multi-craft mod), the game will warn you that Failed to apply item: You can't use this currency on items with a modifier that affects mod outcomes. So that item must be crafted with essence (and fossil if the player want to use the item to have fossil specific mod, or just want to aid the crafting by using fossil combo to block or increase the odd of some mod) first and then using metamod to aid the crafting by using basic currencies.

The second item is reforged as a rare item with both influence types and new modifiers

Awakener's Orb is changed shortly after its introduction so that it ignore metamod. Apart from up to two influenced mods that the orb will kept (at most one from each ingredients and only if they are in different mod group), the orb will reroll the item, so that it is a waste of currency to try to craft metamod on the mod receiving item, as the metamod will not protect the affix from the changes by the Awakener's OrbAwakener's OrbStack Size: 10Destroys an item, applying its influence to another of the same item class

Version history

Version Changes
3.16.0
  • The crafts that allow Items to have multiple Crafted Modifiers, prevent Item Prefixes or Suffixes from being changed, prevent Items from rolling Attack or Caster Modifiers can now be found in Maps.
3.12.0
  • Item modifier tags have been entirely reworked with a goal in mind of consistency and simplicity. These changes have negligible impacts to the odds of various modifiers appearing on rare items naturally, but may have impacts to the results of certain crafting methods.
  • (In Development Manifesto) From 3.12.0 onwards the tags displayed when holding alt (which were previously used for fossil and Harvest crafting) will also be used by catalysts, the "Cannot roll Attack Mods" and "Cannot roll Caster Mods" meta-crafts.[4]
3.9.1b
  • Awakener's Orbs now ignore Mastercrafting Metamods.
3.5.0
1.3.0
  • Leo and his of Dueling - Cannot roll Modifiers with Required Level above 28 (Suffix) mod are introduced to the game.
