For practical builds, it is almost impossible for Discipline to increase your unreserved Mana with [[Eldritch Battery]], given that you likely either already have a large Mana pool (and thus Discipline will reserve a large number of points of Mana) and/or you are reserving most of it already (and thus the extra Mana from Discipline will be more than eaten by the existing plus Discipline's reservation). Discipline ''will'' increase your Mana regeneration; however, {{sl|Clarity}} is usually a better first choice for this purpose, with a level 20 gem effectively increasing your Mana pool by 1411 for purposes of Mana regeneration for a flat base reservation of 520 Mana.
Using Discipline with Eldritch Battery will reserve a portion of your mana in return for more Energy Shield which is then used as mana. While this is unlikely to give significantly more total effective mana in most practical builds, it will change what proportion of your effective mana is provided by the Energy Shield, and also increase your Energy Shield recharge rate.
