The Pain Attunement mod has the same effect as the Pain Attunement keystone. Taking the keystone in addition to equipping this item will impart no additional benefit.
Like other fated item, some mod value from the original item is retained. In Martyr's Crown, the mod (60-80) to maximum Energy Shield (since version 3.19 is +(150-225)) from the original item is retained, and the prophecy added one more ES mod (110-130) to maximum Energy Shield (before 3.0 it was +(200-220)). Player need to use advanced mod description (default PC keybind: Alt) to view the mods however, as it will displays as +(170-210) to maximum Energy Shield. (since version 3.19 it is +(260-355).)
Martyr's Crown has legacy variants. The basetype properties and some explicit modifiers and are retained when upgrading unique to their fated counterparts.
