Animate Weapon is a spell that animates a melee weapon on the ground as an allied minion.
Skill Functions and Interactions
Animate Weapon can be used on identified weapons, but not on any ranged weapons. Weapon must be on ground at time of casting and the weapon is permanently consumed. If you have the "Key Pickup" option enabled in the UI tab of the Options menu, you must hold down your "Highlight items and objects" key in order to cast Animate Weapon.
Animated Weapons are flying monsters, meaning they can fly over small obstacles. They also can't be damaged by ground effects (Burning ground, Chilled Ground, Shocked Ground and Tar). Flying monsters will not block the pathing of non-flying ones - they can walk under the fliers.[1]
