Poison is a status ailment that deals chaos damage over time.
Mechanics
Poison can be inflicted by:
- Attacks with weapons that have the Poisonous Hit modifier;[1] Mortem MorsuMortem Morsu

Most forms of poison deal 10% of the total damage of the hit that inflicted it as chaos damage per second.[2] The base duration of poison in this form is 2 seconds. Therefore, over the base duration the target will take 20% of the total damage dealt by the initial hit. Increasing the duration of poison with the Module Error: Too many skills found with q_where = skill.active_skill_name="Temporal Chains". Please choose only one of the following ids:

TemporalChains - Base duration is (5.00-8.80) seconds, +(0-1) metre to radius, 50% less Effect of Curse against Players, Cursed Normal and Magic Enemies have (15-29)% less Action Speed, Other effects on Cursed enemies expire 25% slower, Cursed Rare and Unique Enemies have (9-18)% less Action Speed (page) curse results in a longer-lasting poison that deals damage at the same rate.
For poison clouds, which also inflict poison, the chaos damage over time is some predetermined value. Higher levels of the Module Error: No skills found with q_where = skill.active_skill_name="Poison Arrow" skill create poison clouds that inflict more damaging poison.
Separate applications of poison do not stack cumulatively. Each poison effect remains present on the target until it runs its course, but only the one with the highest damage per second will cause damage at any given moment.[3] For example, assuming an enemy is inflicted with poison for 100 damage per second, then after 1 second it is inflicted with poison for 50 damage per second. The outcome will be 200 damage over 2 seconds followed by 50 damage over 1 second. It is important to note that poison is not a generic label for chaos damage over time. Other sources of chaos damage over time such as the Viper Strike debuff and desecrated ground are not considered poison, and will therefore apply damage cumulatively with poison.[4]
The damage of the poison effect, like any other damage over time effect, can be increased by the Module Error: Too many skills found with q_where = skill.active_skill_name="Vulnerability". Please choose only one of the following ids:
