Path of Exile: Forsaken Master is the second mini-expansion for Path of Exile. It was announced on July 31, 2014[1] and released on August 20, 2014[2]. The expansion adds masters and several related content and features.
Official story
Some say that Dominus exiled the dregs of Oriath to the shores of Wraeclast. No, he exiled anyone who was going to give him trouble, who was going to cause ripples in his progressive theocracy.
Seven men and women, masters in their fields, stood against Dominus' tyranny. Some with words, others with steel. Seven masters forsaken, sent to die in a corrupted land. Seven masters who lived, learned, and now thrive in Wraeclast. Seven Forsaken Masters who can train you... if you choose to help them.
Features
- Masters can train the player and help him survive on Wraeclast
- Complete missions and earn master experience
- Claim and customize a hideout
- Master crafting
- New support and skill gems
- Overhauled boss fights
- Challenge leagues: Rampage and Beyond
- Balance changes on the passive skill tree
Masters
This expansion introduced the Forsaken Masters; seven npc's that offer the player missions, a hideout and crafting options. Initially, they have to be encountered "in the wild" but once one of their missions has been completed, they remain in town and can later be invited to the player's hideout.
Each master is aligned with an item theme. For example, Haku sells and crafts weapons, while Zana is focused on maps.
Missions
Each Master has his or her own style of missions that can be completed for reputation and favour. When the player reaches a certain amount, their master level goes up. There are eight master levels and each one unlocks certain features.
Hideout
Once the player has reached master level 3, he may be taken to a Hideout, where he can create his own personalised town. Masters residing in your Hideout offer you daily Missions and train the player in advanced crafting options. A hideout can be customized; each master sells decorations that can be placed in the hideout. These decorations are bought with favour.
Crafting
Using crafting benches provided by the masters, it is possible to craft a specific modifier. These require a certain level of the corresponding master and have a price that needs to be paid at the time of the craft (depending on the mod). By default, every item is limited to one of these mods, but there are ways to bypass that limit.
At higher levels, each Master also sells Magic items with a specific, new mod. These can be used as-is or crafted further with either the new Hideout Crafting Benches or the traditional Orb system.
Overhauled boss fights
Several act 1 boss fights have been reworked:
- The Fairgraves Eternal fight has been completely overhauled.
- The Brutus and Merveil fights have been redesigned.
This also affects the map versions of these bosses.
