Locus of Corruption is an incursion room. It can be upgraded from Catalyst of Corruption, itself from Corruption Chamber.

The altar of corruption (also known as Corruption Altar in-game) will corrupt an item similar to Vaal Orb. The type of outcome depends on the item class and item level of the item being corrupted.

Regular items:
Incursion room progression
* Turn all sockets white
* Change into a random influenced rare
* Destroy the item
* Grant two random corrupted implicit modifiers

Each outcome has an equal chance of occurring. It is most likely not possible to transform certain unique equipment items into their Vaal version. There are no upgraded uniques with two corrupted implicit modifiers.

Locus of Corruption is the tier 3 incursion room of Paquate, Architect of Corruption.

Corruption Altar

Within the Locus of Corruption, the player can interact with the Corruption Altar in the center of the room to access a device that can be used to corrupt a single item, with potentially powerful or destructive results. This works somewhat like a Vaal OrbVaal OrbStack Size: 20Corrupts an item, modifying it unpredictablyRight click this item then left click an item to corrupt it. Corrupted items cannot be modified again. but has different outcomes. The types of items that can be corrupted this way include weapons, armour, jewellery, quivers and jewels. The device can only be used on an item that is not already corrupted.

In addition to corrupting the item, one of four possible outcomes will be applied to it. Each has an equal chance of occurring.[1]

  • The item may gain two corruption implicit modifiers. These will replace any implicit modifiers already on the item.
    • This outcome is often referred to by players as "double corrupting" the item.[2][3][4]

      8% increased Maximum Energy Shield for each Corrupted Item Equipped
      6% increased Maximum Life for each Corrupted Item Equipped

  • The item may have the color of all of its sockets become white.
    • This outcome may occur even if the item has no sockets, in which case it will have no effect.[2][6]
  • The item may become an influenced rare item of the same base type, with random modifiers.
    • This is usually considered a bad outcome when a valuable item is being corrupted, since the item will have all of its affixes rerolled. This is referred to by players as "bricking" the item.[2][7][4]
    • Like regular corruption, this outcome respects metamods (Prefixes Cannot Be Changed or Suffixes Cannot Be Changed).[8]
  • The item may be destroyed completely. It will cease to exist.
