Сurses are a type of temporary debuffs.

Mechanics

Curses have a limited duration, but can be refreshed by applying a curse again.

Monsters and maps can have modifiers that make them (or monsters inside of them, in the case of maps) hexproof or immune to curses.

Act and map bosses have 60% less Curse Effect. The Shaper and his guardians have 80% less Curse Effect.

The total Curse Effect value can be calculated as the sum of any added Curse Effect, multiplied by the sum of all increases and reductions to Curse Effect, multiplied by all more and less Curse Effect modifiers.

For more information about the symbols, see sum and product notation.

Curses can be turned into an aura by linking them with the Module Error: No skills found with q_where = skill.active_skill_name="Blasphemy Support".

Curse limit

By default, creatures can have one curse active at a time. While a curse is active, casting a different curse will override it. The following can increase the number of curses player can apply on an enemy:

This allows for a theoretical maximum of 8 curses on an enemy at one time.

Active gems

There are {{#ask: Has gem tags::Curse Has item class::Active Skill Gems |format=count}} curse skill gems usable by players. When a player or monster is cursed, a curse icon will appear over their heads; the icon is the same as depicted on the skill icon. The Silence curse is used by monsters only.

Version history

Version Changes
2.4.0
  • Bosses that had a reduced effect of curses on them now have a multiplier rather than a reduction. Over time, more and more curse effect has been made available to players. With the boss curse effect reduction being additive, the increased curse effect available to players overwhelmed it. Temporal Chains and Enfeeble arguably still trivialise most bosses.
2.0.0
  • Monsters that cast curses which lower player resistances should now do so less frequently. The curses now lower resistances less in Normal and Cruel difficulties.
  • Rogue Exiles no longer reduce the effect of player curses cast on them.
  • Map bosses, meanwhile, reduce the effect of player curses cast on them even more than before.
1.0.0

Map Bosses now have 60% reduced curse effect (up from 50%). Act bosses now have 70% reduced curse effect (up from 40%). Rogue Exiles now have 50% reduced curse effect (up from 0%).
