A Tier 17 Map, also known as T17 or uber map, is a special type of map found in the endgame system related to the Atlas of Worlds. Tier 17 maps act as bridge between regular Atlas/endgame boss content and uber pinnacle boss content.

Mechanics

Tier 17 maps have a base area level of 84, making it easier to obtain item level 85-86 item bases required for certain powerful modifiers on items.

Tier 17 maps differ from regular maps in the following ways:

  • Instead of a white, yellow, or red engraving icon to indicate the map's tier, the icon itself is purple.
  • Tier 17 maps are unmodifiable, preventing them from being crafted. However, they can be enhanced with map fragments or map crafting options when opened.
  • Tier 17 maps can roll some regular map modifiers, but also have their own exclusive pool of affixes.
  • Unlike Valdo's Maps, tier 17 maps are affected by the Atlas Passive Tree.[1]
  • Tier 17 maps have specific types of monster packs based on previous Path of Exile league mechanics like Heist or Expedition. They retain some of their specific mechanics, such as Expedition rare monsters having Ward.
  • Tier 17 map bosses are also enhanced ("uber") versions of bosses from these mechanics, such as The Unbreakable (Heist), Uhtred (Expedition), and Catarina (Betrayal). These bosses can each drop an exclusive unique item, as well as map fragments required to open an uber pinnacle boss encounter.

Acquisition

Voidstones, when socketed into the Atlas of Worlds, have a chance to convert Tier 16 maps into a random Tier 17 map. The initial conversion chance can be calculated with the following formula: = , where is the number of socketed Voidstones.

Voidstones Initial conversion
chance
1 0.4%
2 1.6%
3 3.6%
4 6.4%

With average map investment, a player can expect to see a Tier 17 map drop roughly once every 5 maps. To prevent a massive disparity of Tier 17 maps drops with certain "juicing" strategies, Tier 17 map drops are subject to "diminishing returns" within a map; this means that the first Tier 17 map dropped in a map will use the above conversion rate, then diminish to a unannounced point for subsequent drops in the same map.[2]

Tier 17 maps cannot drop inside a Tier 17 map.
