Mana reservation is an alternative method of using mana to pay for skills which is usually found on skills with an ongoing effect, such as auras and heralds. Rather than paying the mana cost once as with normal skills, a portion of mana is set aside as unusable for as long as the skill is active. Having mana reserved does not reduce the rate of mana regeneration, so it will reduce the time taken for mana to regenerate to its (temporary) maximum.
Reserved mana values are multiplied by support gem mana cost multipliers as usual. The Blood Magic passive will cause life to be reserved instead of mana.
Skills which reserve mana
Mana can be reserved in two ways:
- By a fixed amount, which grows as the gem levels
- By a percentage of maximum mana, which does not change with gem level

Reducing mana reservation
The amount reserved can be reduced by passives or items with the "Reduced Mana Reserved" or "Less Mana Reserved" properties. The amount reserved will NOT be reduced by the property "Reduced Skill Cost" such as from the Module Error: No skills found with q_where = skill.active_skill_name="Reduced Mana" support gem. Elreon's items will not reduce reservation costs either.
The total of all "Reduced Mana Reserved" modifiers whether from passives, jewels, or items, is summed before being applied. However "less" modifiers, and mana multipliers such as that granted by Module Error: No skills found with q_where = skill.active_skill_name="Enlighten" each apply as separate multiplications.

Passive skills
The passive skills with "reduced" reservation are all part of aura themed clusters.
There is a total of 14% reduction in the cluster in the outer Templar area, 12% in the cluster between Ranger and Shadow, and 4% each in the clusters in the Shadow, outer Duelist, and outer Scion areas. There is a single "Less" passive, Mortal Conviction, which lies behind Blood Magic so will be reducing Life reserved, not Mana.

Reservation calculations
The calculation to determine the reservation cost of an aura is ceiling(ceiling(floor(base Mana Reserved * Mana Multiplier) * (100% - less Mana Reserved)) * (100% - reduced Mana Reserved))
.
With equipment and passives available as of version 2.3, each category includes the following.
- Mana Multiplier: Module Error: No skills found with q_where = skill.active_skill_name="Enlighten" and corrupting a Body Armour with a Vaal Orb can give the item "Skill Gems in this item get a 95% Mana Multiplier" as an implicit.
- Less Mana Reserved: Mortal Conviction.
- Reduced Mana Reserved: All passive nodes which provide "reduced Mana Reserved", Conqueror's EfficiencyConqueror's Efficiency
