Discussion on "Nearby Enemies have 50% increased Fire and Cold Resistances"

Ok first of all thanks for both of your replies (see:User talk:Neokowloon). My assumptions arent just speculations or relying on PoB (where the mod currently doesnt even function). I (and before me also many others) have tested this mechanic with a friend in PVP to see if the mod actually multiplies negative resistances. And it did! And yes this item is indeed very niche but nontheless under the right circumstances quite good.

Now to your example about Shaper having 50% Elemental Resistance:

In your example you JUST used Combustion SupportCombustion SupportFire, Support
Icon: i
Level: (1-20)
Cost & Reservation Multiplier: 130%
Requires Level 8Supports any skill that hits enemies.Supported Skills deal (10-19)% more Fire Damage
Supported Skills have 25% chance to Ignite
Enemies Ignited by Supported Skills have -10% to Fire Resistance

Additional Effects From 1-20% Quality:
Supported Skills deal (0.5-10)% increased Fire Damage
This is a Support Gem. It does not grant a bonus to your character, but to skills in sockets connected to it. Place into an item socket connected to a socket containing the Skill Gem you wish to augment. Right click to remove from a socket.
and the -9% fire res fossil mod (which btw is helmet only so doesnt apply). With this item you either go all in or you just dont use it. So lets say i try to lower Shapers fire res through various means:

  • Base of 50% Fire Resistance
  • with a lvl 20 Combustion SupportCombustion SupportFire, Support
    Icon: i
    Level: (1-20)

Shaper is now at 31% Fire Resistance [ 50-19=31 ]
  • with Elemental Equilibrium via a lightning/cold hit Shaper is going to be at -19% Fire Resistance [ 31-50=-19 ]
  • with a lvl 20 FlammabilityFlammabilitySpell, AoE, Duration, Fire, Curse, Hex
    Level: (1-20)
    Cost: (24-50) Mana
    Cast Time: 0.50 sec
    AoE Radius: 22
Requires Level 24Curses all targets in an area, lowering their fire resistance and giving them a chance to be ignited when hit.Base duration is (8.00-11.80) seconds
    +(0-1) metre to radius
Cursed enemies have -(17-36)% to Fire Resistance
Hits against Cursed Enemies have +25% chance to Ignite

    Additional Effects From 1-20% Quality:
Ignite on Cursed enemies has (1-20)% increased Duration
Place into an item socket of the right colour to gain this skill. Right click to remove from a socket.
(and no investment into curse effectiveness) Shapers Fire Resistance is now at -33% (assuming it gets rounded down) [ -19-44*0.34=-33.96 ]
  • The Helmet itself now also grants a chance to apply Fire Exposure on hit. So with that applied Shaper is now at -58% Fire Resistance [ -33-25=-58 ]

AFTER all that the mod "Nearby Enemies have 50% increased Fire and Cold Resistances" gets applied which means the shapers Fire Resistance which is now at -58% gets multiplied by the 50% increased -> *1.5. [ -58*1.5=-87 ]

  • So Shaper would end up at -87% Fire Resistance. So i gained an additional -29% fire res reduction on shaper via the helmet mod.

And i could have used Elemental WeaknessElemental WeaknessSpell, AoE, Duration, Curse, Hex
Level: (1-20)
Cost: (16-33) Mana
Cast Time: 0.50 sec
AoE Radius: 22
Requires Level 24Curses all targets in an area, lowering their elemental resistances.Base duration is (8.00-11.80) seconds
+(0-1) metre to radius
Cursed enemies have -(15-30)% to Elemental Resistances

Additional Effects From 1-20% Quality:
(1-20)% increased Duration of Elemental Ailments on Cursed enemies
Place into an item socket of the right colour to gain this skill. Right click to remove from a socket.
too and scale the curses further via Curse Effectiveness or even use a Fossil crafted Helmet on a Animate GuardianAnimate GuardianSpell, Minion
Level: (1-20)
Cost: (11-20) Mana
Cast Time: 0.60 sec
Requires Level 28Animates a melee weapon or armour, attaching it to an invisible Guardian that fights by your side. Animating multiple items attaches them to the same Guardian. You cannot animate unidentified items. Cannot be used by Traps or Mines.Minions have (0-38)% more Maximum Life
Can use Items requiring up to Level (33-100)
Minion deals (0-38)% more Damage

Additional Effects From 1-20% Quality:
(2-40)% increased Minion Movement Speed
Place into an item socket of the right colour to gain this skill. Right click to remove from a socket.
(or maybe even a 2nd Eye of Malice if that works... i would have to test that). There might be other means of lowering Enemy Fire Resistance which i cant think of right now. So to the initial question of "..., are there any practical use and worth to mention as "benefit"?". There absolutely is a practical use of this item. The more you invest into it the more it is worth.

"Nearby Enemies have 50% increased Fire and Cold Resistances applies +50% to nearby enemies' fire and cold resistances, so you also have to take into account their other additive modifiers to fire and cold resistances." What other additive modifiers would Shaper or even Sirus have? Do you mean map mods? --Divinityy (talk) 12:33, 29 February 2020 (UTC)

Actually, now that I'm looking at it, I think I completely misunderstood how the Nearby Enemies have 50% increased Fire and Cold Resistances mod works. It's worded as if it's actually a multiplier, which means that if an enemy already has negative resistances, this effect would multiply that by 1.5, further putting it into the negative. I'd like to get clarification on that by an authoritative source though. —Vini (t|c) 20:43, 29 February 2020 (UTC)
I could test it right now with a friend again and give evidence via screenshots, but i guess that doesnt prove anything because it isnt from GGG, just the game. so how am i supposed to give any clarification from ggg if there is none? --Divinityy (talk) 21:11, 29 February 2020 (UTC)
Sorry, I think you misunderstood. I'm saying it would be nice to have clarification from GGG, not that it's absolutely necessary in order to describe how it works on the wiki. If you've tested it out, then you probably have a pretty good idea how it works. —Vini (t|c) 21:42, 29 February 2020 (UTC)
Ah okay sorry. So iam allowed to revert the undo now or? --Divinityy (talk) 21:49, 29 February 2020 (UTC)
Yeah, by all means. —Vini (t|c) 22:15, 29 February 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for actually listening to me. :) --Divinityy (talk) 22:30, 29 February 2020 (UTC)
  • GGG only indirectly confirm the double multiplier at Cleansed Thoughts, but that is for player character's resistance not enemy one. It would be way more complicated if Scorch is 20% reduced(edit: the wording is "lowering") Elemental Resistances of the monster, so by the program coding it rather look overflow effect to flip benefit to disadvantage and "debuff" to buff once passing zero resistance. I would rather surprised to see if someone able to stack enough -% monster res skill and mod to trigger this. Neokowloon (talk) 00:08, 1 March 2020 (UTC)
Also, Exposure does not applies -25% resistance, it is 10%. the mod is 25% chance to inflict ... Neokowloon (talk) 04:51, 1 March 2020 (UTC)
Only if you apply Exposure by other source such as Active skill gems, is 25%. Neokowloon (talk) 05:10, 1 March 2020 (UTC)
