A Jeweller's Orb is a currency item that can be used to re-roll the number of sockets on a weapon or piece of armour. The maximum number of sockets is still limited by the type of equipment and item level.
Jeweller's Orbs can be found from slain enemies and Arcanist's Strongboxes.

Jeweller's Orbs are primarily used to randomly change the number of sockets an item, subject to the limitations enforced by the item's item level. If an item has some quality, each 1% quality improves the result by 1%. The sockets of an item reforged by a Jeweller's Orb also come with random links and colors. A Jeweller's orb will always roll a different number of sockets then the item had originally, but will not reroll an item with maximum sockets.
In general the exact chances of obtaining a given number of sockets is unknown, but in the case of weapons the following is known:
If one is risk-averse and wants to avoid randomness, one can instead use the Artisan's Bench provided by Vorici. Using the Artisan's Bench to craft sockets overrides the item level socket restrictions (i.e. it is possible to craft 6 sockets on an item level 1 body armour).

When Vorici is level 8, these recipes can also be applied to corrupted items at the cost of using one Vaal Orb for every Jeweller's Orb required. This is currently the only way the number of sockets on a corrupted item can be modified.
Yeena will also sell one Orb of Fusing in exchange for 4 Jeweller's Orbs, or one Chromatic Orb in exchange for 3 Jeweller's Orbs. Vorici will sell 20 Orbs of Fusing in exchange for 64 Jeweller's Orbs once daily, and Tora will sell 20 Chromatic Orbs in exchange for 48 Jeweller's Orbs once daily.
When you use an Orb of Fusing or a Jeweller's Orb on an item, the item's quality is no longer consumed. The way that quality affects the result has also been changed. Each 1% quality improves the result by 1%. This makes the Fusing process 20% easier on 20% quality items, for example.
