Metamorph Sample refer to the 5 types of items from the in-game mechanics Metamorph: Brain, Eye, Heart, Lung and Liver. The itemized unique Metamorph organ (referred as "Greater Samples" in the dialogue or itemized sample in the Metamorph league challenge) only drop from defeating the Metamorph boss that constructed by the player in map.
Mechanics
Each map have 10% chance to have Metamorph encounter (was 100% in Metamorph league) as one of the core game mechanics.[1] The chance is not shared with Master nor Abyss, Blight, Breach and Legion, etc. In the encounter, certain monsters are marked with a green "arrow" on their bodies as well as marked on the mini-map, and the monster health and name bar have a green circle. Upon defeating these monsters, they drop organ samples which are automatically collected. With a full set of samples: Brain, Eye, Heart, Lung, and Liver, players can construct a Metamorph boss (or just known as Metamorph) based on the combination they have used. Players can use a button (PC default: V) in the UI to spawn Tane Octavius and his boss constructing machine: Metamorph Vial.
Since, in one map or area, players can usually collect multiple copies of each type of the samples, there are many combinations of the samples to construct the Metamorph boss. The combination affects the loot as well as the Metamorph boss' abilities and health. Moreover, a meter to the right fills based on sample rarity, and unlocks certain bonuses. For example, the Metamorph boss may drop an itemized Metamorph organ, if a unique sample from the map boss is used and the meter is filled.
Only one Metamorph boss can be constructed in each Map (except in Tane's Laboratory using multiple sets of itemized organ samples) despite players usually having multiple sets of samples.
Tane will also remind the player to use the samples to construct a boss before leaving an area,[confirmation needed because of 3.10 changes] due to the samples needing to be fresh (they cannot carry over to the next instance).
Players can construct a stronger Metamorph boss in Tane's Laboratory by using a full set of itemized Metamorph organs.

Vendor recipe
Three of any itemized organs can be sold to a NPC to receive a random organ differing from those offered, with random rewards.
Thus, if the players lack Eye and Liver, they should use 1 Brain, 1 Heart and 1 Lung in the recipe to maximize the chance.
