A curse is a large area of effect spell that causes negative effects on enemy targets.

Mechanics

Curses have a limited duration, but can be refreshed simply by casting the spell again.

Note that some monsters and maps have affixes that make them (or the monster inside of them, in the case of maps) immune to curses. Some mobs also have curse effect reduction:[1]

Note that this is a reduced modifier, so it will stack additively with any increased curse effect which you have according to:[2]

 NetCurseEffect = CurseEffect * sum(100% + increasedCurseEffect - reducedCurseEffect)

Curses can be turned into an aura by linking them with the Module Error: No skills found with q_where = skill.active_skill_name="Blasphemy" support gem.

Curse Limit

By default, enemies can have one curse active at a time. While a curse is active, casting a different curse will override it. The following can increase the number of curses you can apply on an enemy:

  • Whispers of Doom
  • Malediction (Occultist only)
  • Doedre's DamningDoedre's Damning
    Paua Ring
    +(20-30) to maximum Mana+(5-20) to Intelligence
    +(5-20)% to all Elemental Resistances
    Gain (5-20) Mana per Enemy Killed
    You can apply an additional Curse

  • An amulet with a Enemies can have 1 additional Curse, obtainable by corrupting an amulet with a Vaal OrbVaal OrbStack Size: 20Corrupts an item, modifying it unpredictablyRight click this item then left click an item to corrupt it. Corrupted items cannot be modified again.

This allows for a theoretical maximum of 6 curses (7 for Occultists) on an enemy at one time.

increases the maximum number of curses you can have on yourself.

Skills

There are 12 curse skills usable by players. When a player or monster is cursed, a curse icon will appear over their heads; the icon is the same as depicted on the skill icon. The Silence curse is used by monsters only.

Skill Icon Description
Punishment Curses all targets in an area, causing them to grant a Buff to anyone they hit with Melee Attacks. The Buff grants more Melee Damage and increased Attack Speed.

Curses all targets in an area, making them more vulnerable to stuns. Hitting the cursed targets will leech life and mana, and killing them will result in a chance to gain an endurance charge.

Curses all targets in an area, making them less evasive. Hitting cursed targets will grant life and mana, and killing them will result in more flask charges and a chance to gain a frenzy charge.
Module Error: No skills found with q_where = skill.active_skill_name="Projectile Weakness" Curses all targets in an area, making them easier for projectiles to pierce and easier to knock back, while reducing their evasion against projectiles.
Temporal Chains Curses all targets in an area, making time pass more slowly for them. They will move, attack and cast at a reduced speed, and effects on them will expire more slowly.

Curses all targets in an area, making them more vulnerable to critical strikes. Killing the cursed targets will grant life and mana, and a chance to gain a Power Charge.
Conductivity Curses all targets in an area, making them less resistant to lightning damage and giving lightning damage a chance to shock.

Curses all targets in an area, making them less resistant to elemental damage.
Enfeeble Curses all targets in an area, making their attacks less effective.
Flammability Curses all targets in an area, making them less resistant to fire damage and giving fire damage a chance to burn.

Curses all targets in an area, making them less resistant to cold damage and giving cold damage a chance to freeze.

Curses all targets in an area, making them take increased damage from physical attacks and Damage Over Time.
