Likes other monsters, there is no official lore in the official website or from in-game environmental objects. However, since Solar Guard is spawned along with Solaris Elite, probably after the falls of the High Templar Avarius (as well as the wake up of gods due to The Beast is killed), those templars under the High Templar are changed to loyal to Solaris instead. Thus, the Blackguard Scout became Solar Scout, Blackguard Elite became Solaris Elite, Blackguard Mage became Solarsworn Archmage, Solarsworn Infernomage, the Prayer Guard became Solar Elemental and Solar Guard. They also jointed force with enemies in the past, the Assault Ribbon, Flame Sentinel, etc, that previously guarding the Solaris Temple and against the Blackguards.

The map mod MapMonsterPacksSolarisMapWorlds_ can spawn Solar Guard and other aforementioned monsters as "Solaris fanatics".

While out of the 4th wall explanation is the dev simply reused the game assets to create "new" monster.
The 3D model resembles a humanoid but it does not have humanoid tag, but construct, stone_construct, templar internal tags. Solar Guard is similar to Prayer Guard that can be found in The Chamber of Innocence, but larger in 3D model and apparently stronger as a spectre.

Abilities

Like Solar Elementals, the less powerful variant, they have fire resistance and the ability to cast Fireballs. However, Solar Guards fire only a single Fireball, while Solar Elementals cast Fireball as a nova which has a total of 9 projectiles.

Solar Guard also has a beam skill: SpecialBeamCannon, which has a charge up time and deals - upon impact - a great amount of AoE damage. Both Fireball (id: HolyFireElementalFireball) and the beam skill deal fire damage.

Due to their powerful nature they make a great early target for Raise SpectreRaise SpectreSpell, Minion

Trivia

There is no official lore on the official website or from in-game environmental objects. However, since Solar Guard is spawned along with Solaris Elite, probably after the fall of the High Templar Avarius (as well as the wake up of gods due to The Beast being killed), these templars under the High Templar seem to change to be loyal to Solaris instead. [guesswork?]

The 3D model resembles a humanoid but it does not have humanoid tag, but construct, stone_construct, templar internal tags. Solar Guard is similar to Prayer Guard that can be found in The Chamber of Innocence, but larger in 3D model and apparently stronger as a spectre.
