Shock is an elemental status ailment associated with lightning that causes the affected target to take 50% increased damage from all sources.

As of Version 1.2.0 the shock status aliment do not stack any more. This also applies to shocked ground (from the map modifer "of lightning" for example).

Shock is inflicted by critical strikes or by obtaining some amount of chance to shock. Typically only critical strikes with lightning damage will shock, however there are various uniques, skills and passives that will modify this behavior.

  • Targets cursed with Conductivity have a chance to be shocked when hit with any lightning damage.
  • The passive skill Static Blows grants additional chance to shock targets hit with lightning damage.
  • The unique helm Module Error: No results found for item using search term "item_name = Three Dragons" makes your fire damage shock instead of your lightning damage.

The base duration of shock is proportional to the damage dealt by the initial hit of lightning damage relative to the target's maximum life.

The shock status is applied after the hit (not before), because the duration of the shock is based on damage dealt.

Let N be the lightning damage dealt, L be the target's effective maximum life and I the total increased shock duration.[a][b] The shock duration D in milliseconds is then given by:

If N > L ÷ 3, then N = L ÷ 3
D = P × 276ms × I

P = N ÷ ( L ÷ 100 )

If the duration would be less than 300 milliseconds, the shock effect is not applied. The maximum, unmodified shock duration from lightning damage is 9.2 seconds.[1]

  • Critical hits with fire damage, rather than lightning damage, cause shock while Module Error: No results found for item using search term "item_name = Three Dragons" is equipped.
  • The converted component of physical damage can shock you while wearing Module Error: More than one result found for item using search term "item_name = Lightning Coil". Try using the page parameter instead.

  • Shock and Shocked Ground have been changed so that they cause 50% increased damage taken (rather than 30%) but no longer stack. They do not stack with each other either. "Cannot Be Shocked" now prevents players being affected by either Shocked Ground or Shock itself.

  1. A monster's effective maximum life is its maximum life without party scaling.[1]
  2. The effective maximum life for a target with Chaos Inoculation is what its maximum life would be it did not have Chaos Inoculation.[1]
