Damage over time (DoT) refers to damage inflicted continuously over a period of time. This is contrasted with hits of damage, which take effect instantly.

Common forms of damage over time are:

Damage over time is is neither spell damage nor attack damage, and modifiers specific to those types will not apply. Increased damage over time will not increase the damage you deal to yourself, for instance with Blood Rage.

Damage conversion does not apply to damage over time.
