A curse is a large area of effect spell that causes negative effects on enemy targets.

Curses have a limited duration, but can be refreshed simply by casting the spell again.

By default, enemies can have one curse active at a time. While a curse is active, casting a different curse will override it. Taking the Whispers of Doom notable allows the player to give enemies up to two different curses at once. The unique items Doedre's DamningDoedre's Damning

grant +1 curse each. By corrupting an amulet there is chance of adding the Enemies can have 1 additional Curse implicit modifier. With 2 rings, Windscream, a corrupted amulet and and the passive point mentioned above, you can theoretically inflict a total of 6 Curses at one time.

Note that some monsters and maps have affixes that make them (or the monster inside of them, in the case of maps) immune to curses. Map bosses also have 60% reduced effect of curses on them, and Act Bosses 70%. Launching a curse that decreases the target's elemental resistances by 20% on Vaal oversoul would reduce his resistances by only 6%. This does not mean that curses are useless, but it can make it inadvisable to rely too heavily on curses when building a late game character. Note that this is a reduced modifier, so it will stack additively with any increased curse effect which you have[1][2].

Skills

There are 12 curse skills usable by players. When a player or monster is cursed, a curse icon will appear over their heads; the icon is the same as depicted on the skill icon.
