When you slay monsters in maps that are influenced by The Searing Exarch and The Eater of Worlds, an altar may appear at their corpses. These Altars can be used to further control the risk and reward of these maps.[1]
Each altar presents a choice between two options with an Upside modifier and a Downside modifier. The category of modifiers are grouped between "Map Boss (Boss)", "Eldritch Minions (Monster)", and "Player (Player)" effects. Defeating the map boss will cause any subsequent Altars to be unable to generate Map Boss modifiers, limiting choices to only "Eldritch Minions" or "Player". This can be used strategically in maps such as City Square MapCity Square MapMap Level: 75
Map Tier: 8
Guild Character: ÖCountless generations have
walked these time-worn stones.Travel to this Map by using it in a personal Map Device. Maps can only be used once. to farm large pack sizes of Eldritch minions for rewards and Eldritch currency.
Eldritch Altar effects persist through the remainder of the map and cannot be removed. There is currently no way to see the modifier effects again after selecting them.
Using an Eldritch Altar will also spawn a pack of Eldritch Minions at its location.
Eldritch Altar effects can be modified through the Atlas keystones Wrath of the Cosmos and Eldritch Gaze, making the modifiers more rewarding but also significantly more deadly.
