Shields offer additional defenses and a chance to block. Only one shield may be equipped at a time, in the offhand slot.

Shields and Body Armours have inherent Movement Speed penalties. In general, all STR Shields come with an '6% reduced Movement Speed' penalty and all other Shields have a '3% reduced Movement Speed' penalty.

Tower shields

Tower shields require strength to equip and provide additional armour rating.

Bucklers

Bucklers require dexterity to equip and provide additional evasion rating.

Spirit shields require intelligence to equip and provide additional energy shield. Most also have an implicit increased spell damage mod.

Round shields require a combination of strength and dexterity to equip and provide additional armour and evasion rating. Most also have an implicit increased block recovery mod.

Kite shields

Kite shields require a combination of strength and intelligence to equip and provide additional armour rating and energy shield. Most also have an implicit elemental resistance mod.

Spiked shields

Spiked shields require a combination of dexterity and intelligence to equip and provide additional evasion rating and energy shield. They also have an implicit "damage reflect" mod.

Shield passives

Basics:

  • Block Recovery (40% increased Block Recovery)
  • Block Recovery (50% increased Block Recovery)
  • Elemental Resistance with Shields (+15% elemental resistances when holding a shield)
  • Energy Shield on Shield (+30% increased Energy Shield from equipped shield)
  • Shield Block (2% additional Shield Block chance)
  • Shield Block and Defenses (1% additional Shield Block chance, 15% increased shield defenses)
  • Shield Block and Block Recovery (1% additional Shield Block chance, 40% increased Block Recovery)
  • Shield Defenses (30% increased defenses from equipeed shield)
