Mechanics
Presence of Chayula's unique modifier "Maximum Life Converted to Energy Shield" works with the same mechanics as damage conversion. Base life (from gear and flat life on the passive tree) is first converted to energy shield, and then % life and % energy shield passive nodes are combined additively.[1][2]
This also means that Chaos Inoculation characters will see virtually no benefit, since their maximum life is overwritten to 1.[3]
