Eldritch Decay is detrimental ground effect that deals physical damage over time.
Sources
The effect is caused by killing the Madness Propagators as an on death effect, or the tentacle whip skill of the Elder.
In the Elder-influenced map, Madness Propagators drop temporarily eldritch decay on death.[1]

), Madness Propagators drop eldritch decay on death, which the ground effect is permanent in this area. Player need to kill the Madness Propagators fast enough after the monsters spawned to prevent the arena is full of unwalkable ground effects,[2] or achieve certain league challenge.[3]
The tentacle whip skill of the Elder will create temporarily eldritch decay in the Absence of Value and Meaning. While in Elder-influenced map, the tentacle whip will create a visual-only ground effect, but did not deal damage over time nor have a status icon.
Trivia
The status icon of Eldritch Decay is called "ElderGroundEffects.dds" in the game file.
