Mechanics

With 5 corrupted items equipped, (not counting corrupted jewels): 50% of chaos damage does not bypass energy shield and 50% of physical damage bypasses energy shield. If the character has insufficient energy shield, then the remainder of the damage will be taken from life.

In a similar fashion to Mind Over Matter, Corrupted Energy requires the character to be hit for the effect to take place. For this reason, it has no effect with damage over time.

For example, if the character is Bleeding, energy shield will absorb the physical damage over time caused by bleed before it is applied on life.

If the character is taking chaos damage over time (eg. poisioned, positioned on Desecrated ground or Caustic cloud), the damage will be applied directly on life.
