"Tier" vs "Level"

As per mark_ggg, essences are (intenerally) at least ordered by levels https://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/50380o/ziggyds_essence_league_cheat_sheet/d70xtv7

The community has been calling them tiers though, and ziggy's spreadsheet reflects that too. Not sure with what to go here unless GGG states they have a preference for either --OmegaK2 (t|c) 22:38, 29 August 2016 (UTC)

A recap, as I understand it: The essence affixes represent the magnitude of the mods that they imbue; these form a progression (GGG calls these "levels" internally). Which affixes you can find is determined by the area level (GGG calls these "tiers" internally). —Vini (t|c) 01:13, 30 August 2016 (UTC)
I've been thinking about this a lot, and the more I think about it, the more GGG's internal terminology (as described by Mark) makes sense. However, ZiggyD and possibly many others in the community have already settled on the "backwards" terminology. I don't think we should enforce GGG's internal terminology if that will introduce confusion in the way people already understand how the essence mechanics work. —Vini (t|c) 03:57, 30 August 2016 (UTC)
I've asked mark_ggg about it, see here: https://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/50380o/ziggyds_essence_league_cheat_sheet/d71w8vk?context=3
He noted that the game refers to them as levels, and if we use tiers that would probably cause more confusion. So it isn't just internal terminology after all. I've seen some people start to use the level term, and I think we have a certain level of power here on the wiki - I've seen people adapt terminology over time, so it might be enough to change the terminology to the proper wording over time, especially since the league hasn't started yet.
As a result I'm more inclined to go with essence level, feels more correct overall. --OmegaK2 (t|c) 06:41, 30 August 2016 (UTC)
