Burning Damage is a specific Degeneration effect caused by a number of sources:

All sources of Burning stack with each other, but do not stack with themselves. When multiple identical sources of burning apply to an enemy at once, the highest damage of that effect will apply. Fore example, an enemy standing in Searing Bond, 2 fire trap ground burns and suffering from Ignite will take damage from one of each effect, but not both ground burns. The only exception to this rule is Searing Bond[1]

As a degeneration effect, Burning does not benefit from any support skill which requires a hit. This includes Item Rarity, Item Quantity, Fire Penetration, Added X damage, Life Leech, Mana Leech and others.

Burning damage can be increased by the Vulnerability curse and a number of passive nodes;

Burn Damage Passives

Basic Passives affecting Burn Damage include:

  • 2 x Burn Damage (10%)
  • 2 x Burn Damage (15%)
  • 1 x Burn Damage (30%)

For a total of 80% increased Burn Damage. There is currently a bug with tooltips which prevents them from showing burn damage modified by these passives.

Burning still checks against an enemy's fire resistance in spite of not benefiting from Fire Penetration.
