Alternate start events are a type of race which do not start in act 1 but rather in one of the later towns.
Characters are provided with starting gear and gems of an appropriate level, and all quests prior to the starting point are completed. The half hour before the race starts can be used to allocate skill points, but the character cannot move or use vendors in this period.
