Valdo's Puzzle Box is a currency item which contains a random tier 17 foilValdo's Map created by players who have purchased the Sandwraith Assassin Supporter Pack. Completing the map rewards the player with a foil unique item.
All Valdo's Maps are tier 17 (area level 84) and are not considered part of the Atlas of Worlds. It does not grant completion on the Atlas for the named map on map completion. In the Map Stash Tab, they are stored in the same tab as guardian maps.
Valdo's Maps cannot be used to unlock an additional Map Device slot.
Upon completing the map a Singular Reliquary spawns on the map, which contains the foil reward. Map completion requires the fulfilment of all of the following conditions:
Kill all rare and unique enemies in the map.
Kill at least 90% of all magic and normal enemies in the map.
Complete any additional objectives required from the map's modifiers.
The relative rarity of the rewarded unique affects the chance for a specific map to be chosen when opening a Valdo's Puzzle Box. Additionally, each map modifier for that particular outcome grants a more/less multiplier to that chance for that outcome. Each multiplier stacks multiplicatively.
Modifiers
Valdo's Maps have several unique modifiers instead of the typical random modifiers maps can roll. These modifiers can grant a chance to convert maps into Guardian maps or scarabs in addition to pack size and item quantity/rarity. These conversions occur before monster modifier conversions. The following are notable examples:
Gain Instability on Kill; Unstable Players eventually detonate: Each enemy killed grants the player a stack of Instability for 3 seconds. The duration refreshes whenever you gain a stack of Instability. If the stack duration reaches 0, an explosion of physical damage occurs on the player, dealing damage based on the number of Instability stacks before expiry. The explosion can also hurt allies.
Players who Die in area are sent to the Void: On death, the player character is permanently dead and sent to the Void league, even on softcore leagues. Voided characters can no longer be accessed in-game. The player is given a warning before entering these maps.
Maximum number of Players in Area is one: This prevents multiple players in a party from entering the map. Note that it is possible to bypass this limit by "hiding" a player in certain sub-areas such as Starfall Crater and having another player enter the map, allowing multiple players to be present in a map at once.
Players are assaulted by many dangerous Apparitions: This causes apparitions of The Shaper, The Elder, Atziri, all four Conquerors, and Sirus (similar to Shaper-influenced maps, Elder-influenced maps, Vaal Ritual, and the Elderslayer fights respectively) to appear and use their skills when the player is near an enemy. Apparitions cannot be damaged or targeted directly.
The Maven interferes with Players: This causes the Maven to follow the player, casting skills she usually uses while witnessing map bosses when the player is near an enemy.
Area is inhabited by Kitava's Heralds: Monsters in the area are replaced by Kitava's Heralds, and the map contains several Heart of the Insatiable that spawn several Kitava's Heralds when damaged. A Heart of the Insatiable.
Area contains additional packs of Restless Dead: Adds packs of reviving undead monsters. These monsters will revive after 10 seconds unless their corpse is destroyed (or shattered). Monsters will no longer count towards the required kills threshold after they are killed once.
Area contains Einhar, Exilehunter: An enemy version of Einhar appears in the map that can be killed. He will say a usual Einhar encounter voiceline, during which he can be damaged for a few seconds before he starts attacking the player. He uses physicalprojectile attacks that deal massive damage.
Area becomes fatal after some time: The map becomes fatal after 5 minutes, killing the player instantly after a 10 second countdown, similar to Oba's Cursed TroveOba's Cursed Trove Underground Sea MapMap Level: 77 Map Tier: 10 Guild Character: # Item Quantity: +40%Area has patches of desecrated ground 20 patches with Ground Effect per 100 tiles (Hidden) Ground Effect has a radius of 10 (Hidden) (40-50)% more MonsterLife (30-40)% increased MonsterDamage Area becomes fatal after some time"Here the soil is more deadly than any swing of the axe." - Oba of the Karui, Conqueror of Corruption.Travel to this Map by using it in a personal Map Device. Maps can only be used once..
Portals to Area close over time: One portal closes every 90 seconds.
Area becomes increasingly lethal: Players gain stacks of Lethality (Scourge realm debuff), an unremovable debuff that increases damage taken by 1%, every 2 seconds up to 400 stacks.
Players are assaulted by Ruinous Ghosts: The map spawns untargetable Ruinous Ghosts which can inflict Ruin. Similar to Ultimatum, upon reaching 7 stacks, the map is considered as being failed and cannot generate the Singular Reliquary.
Players in Area are driven mad: Appears to have no obvious effects, but the metadata indicates it may be related to Insanity.
When Hit, Players gain a random Movement Speed modifier from 50% less to 50% more, until Hit again: This effect has an internal cooldown of approximately 2 seconds when self-hitting.

The detonation speed of most Monster Volatile Cores can no longer scale with attack or cast speed. Additionally, the ability for some sources of Volatile Cores to ignore block, evasion, and spell suppression has been removed. Volatile Cores from the Tier 17 Map modifiers and specific Ritual Monsters have also had their damage reduced.
We've also adjusted the drop rate of Valdo's Puzzle Boxes. Previously we were adapting its drop rate based on the possible outcomes selected by supporters. So many supporters really wanted Magebloods, so the box was hardly dropping. Thus we have drastically increased the drop rate of the Box, but reduced the probability of getting chase Unique Items from it (like Mageblood)
As a result, the relative number of Magebloods obtained by players through Valdo's Puzzle Boxes is unchanged.[2]
Added 179 more foiled Tier 17 Valdo's Map options that the Valdo's Puzzle Box can yield.
Introduced the Valdo's Puzzle Box. It currently has 345 options for foiled Tier 17 Valdo's Maps that it can yield. We are still working through the list of submissions from Sandwraith Assassin Supporters to get the others in as soon as possible.
Valdo's Maps are considered "cleared" when you have completed the Map, killed all Rare and Unique Monsters, and killed 90% of the total number of Monsters in the area.
