The Writhing Jar allows players to create enemies on demand, primarily to obtain on-hit and on-kill effects, as long as flask charges are available. Despite being a hybrid flask, this flask can be used even while on full health and mana.
The Writhing Worms spawned by The Writhing Jar are normal enemies, granting 1 warcry power each. They do not generate flask charges or souls for Vaal skills or Soul Eater.[1][2] Writhing Worms last approximately 10 seconds, or 1 hit, and do not leave corpses (even when killed by non-hit damage or duration).
Despite having very low maximum life, approximately 700-800 in a level 83 area[3], they have an ailment threshold similar to a level 83 normal monster. This prevents them from being overly advantageous targets for effects like non-damaging ailments, Cruelty, and Fortification.
Because worms are destroyed on hit, on-hit ailments have no opportunity to proliferate from them. Elemental ailments can be inflicted on them and spread with on-kill effects like Berek's RespiteBerek's Respite Two-Stone RingRequires Level 20+(12-16)% to Fire and Lightning ResistancesAdds (20-25) to (30-50) Fire Damage to Spells and Attacks (25-30)% increased Lightning Damage +(30-40) to maximum Mana When you Kill a Shocked Enemy, inflict an equivalent Shock on each nearby Enemy When you Kill an Ignited Enemy, inflict an equivalent Ignite on each nearby Enemy"With Flame licking at his heels Berek berated the clouds Until vengeful Storm spewed forth his rains And Berek held on tight As Fire screamed and steamed And fled." - Berek and the Untamed. (For unclear reasons, this is not the case for non-elemental ailments.)
