Effect of Increased Duration

Does increasing the duration affect the damage per second in any way? In other words, does doubling the skill's duration also double the total damage dealt over that new duration?

Doubling the duration will not double the damage Viper Strike deal per tick. If the duration of viper strike was 5, and the Dpt was 100, it would do 500 damage. If the duration was 10, it would deal 1000 damage. Iraiku (talk) 00:18, 28 October 2013 (UTC)

"Physical Damage" scaling

The mechanics explanation in the article could probably use a rework. It's overly assertive that the gem should be scaled by physical, to the point of being misleading, when it in fact you can scale it basically any way you want (the DoT is based on the damage of the whole hit, not just physical). I've fixed some in the skill functions section but it's still an issue in the Damage Formula section, and that entire section could perhaps use some cleanup or pruning as well. Explaining mechanics is fine, but doing a total step-by-step breakdown on how to calculate damage is pretty out of place for a skill gem article. --Aggixx (talk) 01:39, 8 September 2014 (UTC)

When the mechanics are updated, we also need to make sure that we update the chaos damage base, its been changed to 10% across the board now. Bderagon (talk) 23:05, 11 September 2014 (UTC)

Even Worse, the formulas used in the calculations in the article are wrong. You NEVER directly multiply "increased" modifiers. Now, the question is, should I update this to the proper formulas or do we prune the whole part? I was able to calculate my own in-game DPS using the correct formulas. It would be beneficial to show the correct formulas on the page, so my vote is update. Iamacyborg (talk) 11:38, 19 October 2014 (UTC)
I've updated the page to the correct formulas, although it might still be a bit rough on the edges. Can't figure out what to name some of these variables.
It is quite a long formula, so it might be useful to chop it down and linking to other, more general articles about damage calculations. I couldn't find any Article on physical damage calculation, though - did I just miss it, or does it truly not exist? I know that the damage conversion page covers alot of the displayed math. Nice work. I'll finish reading the entire section at a later time. One way to shorten the formulas is to use a letter representation for different variables. For example, instead of "VS Hit" and "VS DoT" you could use "D1" and "D2" (or perhaps "Dh" and "Dd") respectively. You should also clearly define what these represent in words and other formulas if needed. —Vini (t|c) 22:33, 19 October 2014 (UTC)

Support by Ancestral Call Support gem

The gem Ancestral Call Support explicitly states in its description text "If supporting a minion attack skill, the minion's skills will not also strike extra targets.". So while it can support the arakaali's fang summon spiders skill, it seems to have no use there. Or is it only used to apply the +damage from +quality? Can anybody clarify that? I am not making changes because I have no clue about how it actually behaves here.

Furthermore, the anomalous and divergent versions sound very interesting (10% AoE / +2 strike range). If they actually work in that context, that is.
