Stopping a shift-click apply sequence

"Right click this item then left click a socketed item to apply it"

Somewhere I found a "secret", that you can SHIFT-leftclick too. This applies the orb and "loads the next orb (if exist) from the same stack".

My question: Is ANY negative effect of releasing the shift button? Any drawbacks? Is any difference if I apply the same orbs but not in 1 sequence (1 shift-press at the beginning) but, for example, in 2 sequences (1 shift at the beginning, release in the middle, press shift and apply the rest)?

The Vorici Chromatic Calculator (https://siveran.github.io/calc.html) has a sentence: "Chromatic orbs cannot reroll the same color permutation twice".

A (somewhat related) question: What does this previos sentence ("cannot reroll") mean exactly? Chromatic orbs has a "memory"? How big memory? Which previous "apply" outcomes are remembered? When is this memory cleared? (For example, travelling to other town, closing the stash, or clicking on another item, releasing the shift button?...) Dndm 20:21, 9 July 2021 (UTC)

"Is ANY negative effect of releasing the shift button?" If you release Shift, it cancels orb application mode. You can easily test this yourself in game using any orb.
"Chromatic orbs cannot reroll the same color permutation twice" This means that using a single chromatic orb on an item must result in a change to its socket color permutation. You can't use a chromatic orb on an item and have nothing change. That's all it means. It has nothing to do with "memory". —Vini (t|c) 21:05, 9 July 2021 (UTC)
