Here is some mismatch with names used here and in Poe. Attack Speed is mainly the keyword/tag of weapon at which is based mechanic of PoE. This is not crealy described. This term is used in weapons, modificators(implicit, explicit and enchantments and other) and passive tree. In this definition is too many unnecessary terms, not describing clearly:

  • "Attack speed is a modifier to a creature's base number of attacks per second. Normal attacks and attack skills derive attack speed and damage from the weapon(s) equipped. This base speed can be increased by attack speed modifiers. In general, weapons with dexterity requirements (e.g., bows and daggers) have higher attack speed than weapons with strength requirements (e.g., staves and maces). Attack speed does not increase the rate that spells can be cast. Instead, cast speed is used for that purpose."

"Attack speed is a modifier to a creature's" - is not. mainly is a tag on weapon used to...
"Normal attacks..." - in PoE there is no normal attack or abnormal :), there is "attack..." as keyword used to skill and interaction with other modificators used with melee skill mechanic.
After describing this mechanic You can add some other information regarding to less important and less direct mechanics and actions in PoE.
This is base only one correct definition:

  • "Attack speed is a keyword and refers to speed of using skill per second. Attack speed refers to skills require melee weapon."

There is unnecessary section: Characters. for whatit is ?! This should be in dual wielding and charges definition not in attack, action etc speed as main section.

if there will be no explicit objection I will tray again edit this definition to more accurate, shorter and clearer used in game.--Koszmarnica01 (talk) 12:09, 8 October 2019 (UTC)

Attack speed is a modifier to a creature's base attack speed as much as it is a modifier to the base attack speed of weapons. It does apply to monsters just like it does apply to players. Also, a characters base attack speed is used if they're unarmed. Normal attack is referring to the default attack skill everyone has.
Please avoid the whole keyword phrase. It was used synonymous with gem tags on the wiki and still is in some places, and gem tags only group gems and do not describe game mechanics --OmegaK2 (t|c) 13:59, 8 October 2019 (UTC)

Discussion: Why is there is no info about the attack speed cap/limit?

I am adding this note here because I have heard 3 different opinions about how the attack speed cap limit works on soul eater builds and the wiki can't help me figure out who is right or wrong. I do not know which of these 3 opinions are right or wrong and maybe someone has link to a quote from ggg so they can add this info to the wiki. These opinions only apply to non-channeling skills, because everywhere I looked they said channeling skills ignore the cap speed limit.

  • Opinion number 1 - The first idea is that because the game is limited to 30 frames per second and you can not use more than 1 attack skill per frame. This limits you to 30 attacks per second, unless you use multi strike or echo shrines, because they are triggers and triggers are not limited to skills used per second. So for example multi strike would allow you to get 90 attacks per second.
  • Opinion number 2 - The second idea is that the game is still limited to 30 frames per second, but you can still surpass the cap of 30 attacks per second by reaching 60 attacks per second or 90 etc.
  • Opinion number 3 - The 3rd opinion is basically a combination of these 2. Most skills do have the limit of opinion number 1, but some skills can go over 30 when they hit 60 or 90.

I'll edit this page for grammar if nothing else, but I feel the interaction between actions and server frames would be more appropriate on another page. Maybe action speed?
The cap exists because you can only begin one action per frame, whether it's attacking, casting, summoning a totem, throwing a trap/mine, warcrying, etc. It isn't an inherent property of attack skills. With Awakened Multistrike (allowing 120 animations per second) and channelling skills like Cyclone (which ignore the cap entirely), attacks are arguably not even the category most limited by it. - Yohsene (talk) 08:55, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
