Retaliation is a gem tag associated with skills that become Usable when a certain condition is met, primarily blocking or taking damage. Retaliation skills can't be used until they become Usable, and have a cooldown once used. Because of their restrictive nature, Retaliation skills tend to have significantly higher damage stats.

Mechanics

While a Retaliation skill is Usable, an icon will appear over your character's head to show that skill can be used. The condition for a Retaliation skill to become Usable is tracked individually for each skill; for example, Crushing FistCrushing FistAttack, Slam, AoE, Retaliation, Melee

both have a condition that requires blocking. After blocking a single hit, using Crushing Fist will not cause Eviscerate to not become Usable, and vice versa. Copies of the same skill will share their usability (and cooldown), however.

"Usable" refers to the period of time when the skill is allowed to be activated. The skill must be both Usable and off cooldown to use. Skills cannot become usable while on cooldown from their own conditions, but can become usable while on cooldown through % chance when you use a Retaliation Skill for a different Retaliation Skill to become Usable. This does not remove an ongoing cooldown.

Once a Retaliation skill is used, it loses its Usable state. Modifiers which causes Retaliation skills to "remain Usable" (e.g. Measured Retaliation, No Forgiveness) will prevent the skill from losing its Usable state and going on cooldown, but will not refresh the Usable duration.

Retaliation skills cannot be exerted, triggered, or used by proxies. Even when proxies are summoned, e.g. through General's CryGeneral's CryWarcry, AoE, Duration
