Damage reduction is a specific defensive stat most commonly granted by armour against physical hit damage.

Mechanics

'Damage reduction' is a specific type of mitigation, primarily gained from armour against hits. Sources of additional damage reduction such as #% additional Physical Damage Reduction are additive with the amount calculated from armour (if any). Damage reduction can mitigate damage over time, though it can only be gained from armour against hits. Despite the generic name, it is unrelated to mechanics like resistances or modifiers to damage taken such as #% reduced Damage taken.[1]

It has a maximum of 90%[2] and a minimum of 0%.[3] The maximum may be modified by Imbalanced Guard.

Physical damage reduction is the most common form of damage reduction. It is the only type of damage reduction granted by armour by default.
