Pause
The Pause feature allows players to pause the game.
Mechanics
In most areas, the game can be paused by opening the pause menu (ESC on PC) or opening any interface that covers the full screen or almost the full screen, including the following:
- Passive Skill Tree
- Atlas Passive Skill Tree
- Atlas of Worlds
- Immortal Syndicate/Betrayal interface[1]
- Incursion map
- Delve map
- Unveiling interface
Other panels such as the inventory dp not pause the game. However, it is still possible to interact with these menus/panels while the game is paused (except by opening the pause menu).
The game will also automatically pause if lag is detected (client does not respond for >100ms)[confirmation needed] or if the player gets disconnected, reducing accidental death due to connection issues[2]. The player will still spawn in town upon logging back in.
Players cannot pause while in a party. Additionally, some areas (typically pinnacle boss encounters) have an unremovable Temporal Interference debuff.
Pausing pauses all in-game features, including monsters and timers for buffs or debuffs.
Ultimatum encounters have a separate pausing mechanic between waves while the Ultimatum interface is on the screen that does function in a party.
