Ondar, the Betrayer is a unique Ghost located in The Grand Promenade in Act 8. It always on a bridge in The Grand Promenade.

Lore

Lord Mayor Ondar is known best for having assassinated Emperor Chitus in 1334 IC as part of the Purity Rebellion. Once the Emperor's most trusted advisor, while the royal court was celebrating the Night of a Thousand Ribbons, Ondar stabbed Chitus with a blade coated with an extremely virulent poison. However, Chitus' inhuman constitution (from thaumaturgy and inserted gem in his body) stopped the poison from taking effect immediately and Chitus was able to sever Ondar in half with his axe before succumbing to the poison and perishing. There is no in-game explanation of his reincarnation during part 2 of the storyline. However, in Path of Exile: Origins, which was released before the "part 2" of the in-game story, revealed that in order to make the assassination successful, Ondar also undergo surgery to insert gem in his body. The surgery made him gained trust from Chitus, as well as inhuman strength.

Trivia

The details of Chitus' assassination, written in The Purity Chronicles Book 5 were silently changed at one point. Originally, the book states Ondar lethally stabs Chitus and escapes through the sewer with Victario's aid, but was assassinated two weeks later by Coralito of the Silent Brotherhood, where his body was left sitting cross-legged holding his severed head in the sewers. The original writing didn't mention a poisoned blade or Chitus' stature.

The version that Ondar stabbed Chitus but also killed by Chitus was included in Path of Exile: Origins #4, published in 2015.
